Delores Reed Brogan, 76, of Roanoke, Va. and Amelia Island, Fla., passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2018 after a long and most courageous battle with cancer.
Born January 12, 1942 in Roanoke, she was the only child and daughter of the late Clifford Ellis Reed and Edna Maxey Reed.
Delores was a graduate of William Fleming High School. She enjoyed needlepoint and was most-accomplished in this art. She was an avid reader and loved shell-seeking with her grandchildren when together in Florida. Throughout her life, Delores was a great lover of all animals and derived immense pleasure from the family’s many dogs over the years. She especially loved rescue pets and always supported this cause. She was a staunch conservative and until her final days enjoyed keeping abreast of political affairs and discussing these with her family and generally won any debates! Above all, she was a devoted and loving wife and mother and an incredibly proud and loving grandmother of her three grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 58 years, R. Alan Brogan; her son, Michael Alan Brogan and wife Betsy of Lynchburg, Va.; grandchildren, Townsend Reed Brogan at the University of Virginia and Elizabeth Blair Brogan and Michael Alan Brogan Jr., both of Lynchburg; sisters-in-law, Linda Brogan Wright (David) of Roanoke and Diane Virginia Brogan (David Burrows) of Daleville, Va.; and brother-in-law, Thomas R. Brogan (Wanda) of Daleville.
The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Teresa Ellis and the staff of Ellis Senior Care for their dedication, professionalism and loving assistance and to the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their wonderful care.
The family will conduct a private memorial service at a later date.
Memorials may be made to either Angels of Assisi, 415 Campbell Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24016 or to Nassau Humane Society, 639 Airport Road, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
