Stuart Gordon Davis, environmental consultant and resident of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2018 at the age of 56.
He was born on May 6, 1962 in Indianapolis to Alice L. Cummings and Rubert F. Davis, graduated from IUPUI with a degree in environmental science and worked as director of the Wastewater Treatment Division for Gurtler Industries Inc.
On October 12, 1991 he married Phyllis, executive director of the Amelia Island Museum of History whom he met on a blind date. They were best friends and looked forward to a lifetime together that was cut way too short.
His daughters, Lindsee, born December 10, 1988, and Sarah, born February 13, 1990, were his pride and joy as were his two grandsons, Jude and Max.
Stuart was a devoted father and loving husband. He was a complex man who loved his family deeply and was a stalwart, passionate, loyal defender of those he loved. He was the type of man who wore his heart on his sleeve and you were never in doubt of where he stood on any topic. He enjoyed many hobbies that involved building and creation such as model building, restoring radios, woodworking, and gardening. He also deeply enjoyed games of all types and was a cinema addict. One of his favorite past times was walking on the beach alone or with family. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, devoted dogs Luis and Yoda, and all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother; his spouse of 26 years, Phyllis (Futch) Davis; his children, Lindsee (Will) Stewart and Sarah (Javier) Sanchez; siblings, Patty (Gerard) Thibault, Robert (Ashley) Davis, and Noah Davis; in-laws, Ernest, Yvonne, and Mary Futch; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father; brother, John Davis; and brother-in-law, Larry Futch.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. He will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
