Ella Louise Partin Rogers, 93 and known to many as “Aunt Eloise,” passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Quality Healthcare in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Born in Fernandina on January 27, 1925, Eloise is one of the last of “Old Fernandina” to pass away.
“Aunt” did not have children. She made herself available to her many nieces and nephews to spend nights, weekends and take vacations with her. During the 1950s when she lived and worked in Jacksonville, Fla., she was their entrée to “Big City Life,” which included movies at the Center and Florida Theaters, New York-style cheesecake, shopping at Cohen Brothers, Wacky Golf and the list could go on and on. When nieces and nephews grew up and had children, she took those children under her wing as well.
There are scores of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews living throughout the United States and Western Europe whose lives were enriched by “Aunt Eloise.” She loved us so and we loved her so, too. We still do.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dave and Content Partin; her husband, Larry Rogers; her brother, Eldridge Partin; her sisters, Dallas Farr, Helen Springle, Annie Burns, and Florence Mierzejewski; a niece, Mary Lucy Mierzejewski; and nephews, Tommy Mierzejewski and Ricky Thweat.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Allen Thweatt, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service, to be officiated by Rev. Scott Baker, will be announced at a later date.
