Mr. Willie F. Crabb, 72, of Yulee, Fla., passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Born in Elkin, N.C., Mr. Crabb was a son of the late Willie R. and Ruby McCann Crabb. He grew up working his father’s tobacco farm and spent many days in the field to help his family. Along the way he was able to learn about carpentry, woodworking and mechanics. Those skills would serve him well in his adult life.
He lived much of his adult life in Napoleon, Ohio, where he and his wife, Lucy, would raise their family. He retired in 2000 from the Campbell Soup Company as a maintenance mechanic. In 2005, he and Lucy moved to Yulee. He was a member of Legacy Baptist Church.
Throughout his life, Willie was known for his do-it-yourself projects. From a two-car garage to rocking horses for his children, he was able to build whatever he wanted. Many of his projects were as much an expression of his love for his family as they were the results of his labors. In addition to his woodworking and carpentry, he loved to fish. He would fish whenever he could.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his son, Billy R. Crabb, and his sisters and brothers, Imogene Edwards, John D. Crabb, Wanda C. Beanblossom and Coy Blaine Crabb.
He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Lucy B. Crabb of Yulee; his children, Patricia (Tommy) Byrd of Charlotte, N.C., Michael (Danielle) Bingham of Mooresville, N.C., Tina Crabb of Yulee, Jeffery (Ann) Hall of China Grove, N.C., John (Ita) Banks of Napoleon, Ohio, and James (Jamie) Banks of Delta, Ohio; a sister, Mary Sue Vanhoy of North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren as well as many other extended family members.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Building 100, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
