It is with great sadness that the family of George D. Smith announces his death at the age of 72 on September 27, 2018 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Mr. Smith moved to Fernandina Beach in 1967 from Wentworth, Ga. and was retired from Jefferson-Smurfit. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1962 until 1966 and been stationed in Tripoli, Libya. He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School.
His memberships included First Baptist Center of Savannah, Ga., Loyal Order of Moose, and the Kraft Athletic Club.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Tracy Lynn Smith; his father, George C. Smith; his mother, Wordia M. Smith; brothers, Jimmy L. Smith and Fermond Smith; sisters, Anne Brown and Faye Raburn; and a half-brother, Vernon C. Smith.
Survivors include his son, George D. "Donnie” Smith Jr.; former spouse and friend, Diane Smith Webb; sisters, Dorothy, Ladine, Donna and Sandra; and his former mother-in-law, Audrey Williams. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah, Ga.
