Carolyn Elizabeth Wynne, 69, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

She was born in Roanoke, Va. to the late Ralph Lee Casteel and Ella Elizabeth Thrasher.

Carolyn grew up in Roanoke and graduated from Radford University with a bachelor’s degree in music. An accomplished pianist and singer, she began her career as a choral director in elementary, junior high and senior high schools in the Roanoke area.

Thirty years ago, Carolyn met her husband, James Wynne, while out with friends. They hit it off immediately and soon became inseparable. He lovingly calls her his best friend. They moved six years ago to Fernandina Beach, and Carolyn could often be found walking her dog, Lexi, downtown in Fernandina Beach, where they would stop by various shops for Lexi to receive her treats from the employees.

Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, always wanting everyone around her to be happy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves behind her husband and best friend, James Francis Wynne of Fernandina Beach; daughter, Laura Kemp and her husband, Andy, of Hanover, Pa.; son, Jason Hobbie and his wife, Claire, of Richmond, Va.; stepson, Danny Wynne and his wife, Holly, of Roanoke; sister, Sandra Hunziker and her husband, Jimmy, of Hardy, Va.; and numerous grandchildren.

The family requests that donations be made in Carolyn’s memory to Community Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Road. Building 100, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

Services will be held at a later date.
