James Robert Clark, 67, of Yulee, Fla., passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2108 at his home.

He was born in Screven, Ga. and was a son of the late Walter and Evie Hathaway Clark. He and his family moved to Yulee when he was nine years old. James was an athlete and played baseball and softball from the time he was 16 years old well into his adulthood. He also started running with his daughters in the last few years. During those runs, he would chide them to hurry up by saying “Quit lollygagging!” He worked with both of his daughters when they played softball. He was fond of quoting the movie line, “There’s no crying in baseball!”

James had retired from working at WestRock after 47 years as an electrician. He was an avid golfer and loved his animals, including a dog and three cats.

He will always be remembered as a sweet and simple man who loved his family. His son-in-law, Anthony, described him as a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa.

He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Gayle Clark of Yulee; his daughters, Chrystal (Anthony) Dietz and Jamie (John) Thirsk, both of Yulee; his brothers and sisters, W. C. (Toni) Clark of Louisville, Ky., Hugh Clark of Atlanta, Ga., Walter (Shirley) Clark Jr. of Yulee, Christine Clark of Yulee, Josephine Musgrove of Yulee, Ernestine Stafford of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and William James Clark of Willow Springs, N.C.; his grandchildren, Joshua Cassidy, Hannah Martyn, Adam Cassidy and Jonah Grandas; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the graveside in Hughes Cemetery in Yulee with Pastor Daryl Bellar officiating.
