Mia Nichole Jackson Washington, affectionately known as “Nikki,” passed away suddenly on October 24, 2018, at the UF Health Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. at the age of 51.
She was born September 13, 1967 to Robert and Edna McCrimon Jackson. She graduated in 1985 from Fernandina Beach High School in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Friends who knew Nikki well talked about her ability to “burn” or cook, a skill inherited from her grandmother and legendary “burner,” Ella Mae.
Indeed, “friend” is a word often used to describe Nikki. Remarkably, in less than two hours after news of her death began to spread, over 50 Facebook posts could be counted.
Nikki was preceded in death by her mother, Edna McCrimon Jackson; her grandparents, Ella Mae and Theodore McCrimon; and her father, Robert Jackson Sr.
Left to cherish Nikki’s memory are her sons, Lance, Chance and Vance “Mista” Deleslie, the sons of Emanuel Deleslie; daughter-in-law, Ashley; and her 10-month old grandson, Ky’Von Deleslie. She had 13 half and stepsisters and brothers, Robert Jackson Jr., Mary Alice Jackson (deceased), Dorothy Jackson (deceased), Kelvin Jackson, Jerline Jones, Shera Dinkins, George Allen, Brittany Allen, Patrice Allen, Charlie Allen (Terri), Kenneth McClendon (Sheree), Debra Elliot (James), and James Woods (Paulette).
She had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, including Jeanette McCrimon Billips, Linda McCrimon, Jeremiah Mitchell, Eddie Mitchell, and Dr. Joanne Mitchell Martin, who along with her husband, the late Dr. Elmer Martin, had the honor of being the godparents not only to Nikki but to her three sons as well. Add to this list her aunts and uncles, Mary (Johnny B.) Patterson, Lisbon Bartley, Diann Bartley, Ray (Sonya) Bartley, and Wayne (Theadessa) Williams.
Numerous other relatives and friends are holding her lovingly in their memories.
A viewing and funeral service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Solid Rock Church of God by Faith in Yulee, Fla. The viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral at 11 a.m.
