Adam Hostetter Kelly, 22, recently passed away in Dayton Beach, Fla., where he was attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Adam was born in Seattle, Wash. but lived his entire life in Florida. He is the beloved son of Prudence Hostetter of Fernandina Beach, Fla. and John Kelly of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Adam attended BAK Middle School of the Arts and Dreyfoos School of the Arts in Palm Beach County, Fla., where he lettered in soccer and track and field. He was a member of the debate team at Dreyfoos and received his Eagle Scout award on Feb. 25, 2013 with Troop No. 208 for his extensive work on assembling over 40 volunteers per day to restore the Pondhawk Natural Area. As patrol leader, he mentored many younger scouts.

His lifelong passion for volleyball began in the sixth grade and continued to his death. Adam’s BAK team went 10-0 in his eighth-grade year. He also played travel volleyball with OBV in Boca Raton, Fla., as well as beach volleyball in Daytona Beach, St. Augustine Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, mentoring many players.

Adam graduated posthumously from Embry-Riddle, cum laude, where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity.

Besides his parents, Adam leaves behind his aunts, Jane Hostetter of Aiken, S.C. and Elizabeth Kelly of the Villages, Fla.; uncle, David Kelly of Columbus, Ohio; his half-brother, Ryan (Cortney) Kelly of Frisco, Texas; his half-sister, Colleen Kelly of Coppel, Texas; and his nephew, Colson Kelly.

Adam’s love of animals was constant throughout his life beginning with a teacup Pomeranian named “Tallie” and growing into Labradors named “Jake” and “Jazz” as he got older. They loved the beach as much as Adam, constantly chasing tennis balls and waves together. Please remember Adam by making memorial contributions in his name to your favorite animal shelter.
