Jospeh L. Raineri

Mr. Jospeh L. “Joe” Raineri, 95, of Julington Creek, Fla., passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Baptist Medical Center South.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Raineri was a son of the late Peter and Giacoma Messina Raineri. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 as part of America’s Greatest Generation. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps the Pacific Theater. After the war, Mr. Raineri began a 27-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. Beginning as a letter carrier, he retired as a safety inspector. While living on Long Island, he was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

After retirement from the Postal Service, he began a second career as a postal clerk with Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y. He continued there until he retired again in 1992. On June 15, 1986, he married Joan Carol Jeffrey. While living in Leisure Village in Ridge, N.Y., he and Joan began coming to Amelia Island. For some four years they considered themselves “snowbirds” but moved to Amelia Island full-time in 2001.

Living on Amelia Island, he and Joan were active members of St. Michael Parrish. Along with Joan, he was always available to help in any capacity he could. Two years ago, they moved to Julington Creek to be nearer their daughter, Hallie, and her family.

Mr. Raineri leaves behind his wife, Joan J. Raineri of Julington Creek; his children, Peter Raineri and his wife, JoAnne, of Delray Beach, Fla., Jacqueline Boege and her husband, Dennis, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Stephanie Greiner and her husband, Jeffrey, of East Northport, N.Y., Kayne Darrell and her husband, Doug, of Castle Hayne, N.C., Jeffrey Oppert and his wife, Lisa, of Leland, N.C., and Hallie Pratt and her husband, David, of Julington Creek, Fla.; and two sisters, Mary O’Marra of Little Rock, Ark. and Gloria of Lindenhurst of New York, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Kallukalam officiating.
