Steven Larry Cook, 58, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2018 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Born in Savannah, Ga., he came “home” to Fernandina Beach shortly after his birth and would spend the rest of his life here.
He attended Fernandina Beach schools and Nassau Christian Academy. As a young man, he worked at White Oak Plantation and for the city of Fernandina Beach. For much of his later life, he worked for himself as a painter until his health prevented him working anymore.
As a youth, he attended First Baptist Church. He also attended Living Waters Outreach Center. Steven was a gentle soul who loved his family. A hospice chaplain said of him, “Steven was able to become an instant friend to anyone because of his kind heart.”
He was predeceased by a brother, Linton Lester Cook, in 1991 and his stepfather, Franklin Holloway, in 1994.
He leaves behind his mother, Kathleen Holloway; his siblings, Gail Wood, Rita (Bruce) Hansen, Kathryn Rushing, Donna Holloway, Frank (Paula) Holloway Jr. and Cheryl (Allan) Baxter; a very dear friend, Rhonda Dubberly; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Stephen Mazingo, Rector, and Pastor Jeff Strickland officiating. He will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery.
