Emily Marie Johnson, 89, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at Baptist Medical Center Nassau.

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, she was a daughter of the late Harold Douglas and Emily Last Lindsey.

She moved with her five children to Jacksonville in 1967 from Toronto in search of a warmer climate. In 1981, they would move to Green Cove Springs. Living in Fort Lauderdale from 1985 to 1989, she would eventually return to the Jacksonville area. In 2000, she moved to Fernandina Beach.

In 1976, she graduated from Florida Junior College in Jacksonville with a degree in nursing and would spend most of the remainder of her working life as a registered nurse. She began her career at St. Vincent’s Hospital in the ICU. She also served as the director of nursing at Cathedral Rehabilitation, cared for patients at a small 10-bed hospital in the Cayman Islands, worked at the North Broward Detention Center as a staff nurse and retired after many years as a home health care nurse in 1997.

Wherever she lived, Mrs. Johnson was always active in church. Whether at Parkwood Baptist Church in Jacksonville or First Baptist Church of Orange Park, she was a faithful member. She was commissioned to the mission field in 1994 and served as a volunteer at City Rescue Mission in Jacksonville. Since living in Fernandina Beach, she was a member of First Baptist Church and taught the Cecil Brewton Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a son, Guy Pratt, in 2012.

She leaves behind her children, Roy Pratt and his wife, Jeanetta, of Jacksonville, Deborah McCullough of Fernandina Beach, Wayne Pratt of Jacksonville and Charles Pratt as well as several cousins in England.

Services to remember Mrs. Johnson were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors with Pastor Zach Terry of First Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach officiating. She will be laid to rest at a later date.
