Janice B. Thrift peacefully entered her final rest Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Jan was born April 27, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio. Her family moved to San Diego, Calif. in 1945. She attended Point Loma High School and San Diego State, where she studied history and political science and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. After college, she moved to Coronado, Calif. and began her career as a bookkeeper. Loving the California lifestyle, she spent many days enjoying what San Diego had to offer. Her interests were diverse and her many friends were always up to date on current events, politics being a major topic for discussion.

Moving to Fernandina Beach in 1970, she concentrated on raising her three sons. During this time, she also began working for the local Chevrolet dealership. Retiring in 1998 but not finished serving the community, Jan volunteered for many organizations. They included the Humane Society, Barnabas, The American Cancer Society, Nassau County Council on Aging, and Baptist Medical Center Nassau. Her sons and grandson meant the world to her as well as the many dogs in her life. She loved them and they her. She enjoyed a special love for music and had a special bond with her favorite musician, grandson Dalton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. Beach and Florence J. Beach, and a sister, Judith B. Foster.

She is survived by a sister, Jeanette Ramsey of Indian Land, S.C.; sons, Clifford B. Thrift (Marnie), Phillip C. Thrift (Georgene), and Donald R. Thrift, and a grandson, Dalton G. Thrift, all of Fernandina Beach.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Amelia Woods clubhouse. Friends are encouraged to share their memories.

The family would like to acknowledge the quality of care and love given by Community Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice and the Nassau Humane Society.
