David E. Cunningham

Mr. David E. Cunningham, 71, of Yulee, Fla., passed away Monday, March 18, 2019 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

He was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on November 26, 1947. He was a son of the late John and Iverna Jacobs Cunningham. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of sergeant. During his time in the Army, he served overseas in Vietnam and Germany.

David worked for many years at Benton Express and retired as the shop foreman. He was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan no matter how the season was going and loved Ohio State Buckeye football. David was also known to be a very good horseshoe player. At any gathering, he would take on all comers for a game. He truly loved his family and was loved by them.

He lost his wife of 40 years, Connie, in January of 2018. In addition to Connie, he was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Kenneth L. Cunningham of East Liverpool.

He leaves behind his children, April M. Cunningham of Yulee and Billy Cunningham of Canton, Ga.; his sisters and brothers, Etta Mae Mazurek of East Liverpool, Floyd E. Cunningham of Jacksonville, Fla., Clyde Cunningham of Stockbridge, Ga., and Gary L. Cunningham and Saundra C. Martin, both of Covington, Ga.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

His family and friends will gather for a service to remember and celebrate his life at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. Chaplain Jackie Hayes will officiate. His service in the Army will also be remembered with Military Honors at that time.
