J.C. Barber, 63, of Yulee, FL, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville. Born on October 5, 1952, in Fernandina, FL, he was the son of the late Bailey and Estelle Barber of Fernandina. He grew up here and attended Fernandina High School. He worked at Lasserre Motor Company, learning automotive repair. He later opened Barber's Bicycle Shop in Fernandina and worked with his brother at Burgess and Cool Trucking Company. In 1975, he married Anna Clark of Reidsville, Ga. Mr. Barber retired from the Nassau County School System in 2000. He was very active in the Yulee United Methodist Church and served on the board of Trustees. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Pete and Oscar, his sisters Frances Graham and Nancy Barber, his brother-in-law Eddie Graham, and his son-in-law Josh Merritt.
He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Ann Barber of Yulee, his son J. Charles Barber III, his daughters Jessica Barber Scott (Garrett), Sandy Barber, and his granddaughter Elizabeth Merritt, as well as many "chosen" family members.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Yulee United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Sward and Rev. Hartford Peeples officiating. A reception for the friends and family will follow in the fellowship hall. He will be laid to rest in a private family service.
