
Kathleen Epps Spicer, 92, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
Kathleen was born in Kingstree, S.C. to the late William Ira Epps and Verbia Hinson Epps.
Kathleen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, N.C. Following graduation, she taught school in North Carolina, and it was during this time that she met her beloved husband, Bill, of Jacksonville, Fla.
After they were married in 1950, Kathleen moved to Jacksonville, where she lived until several years after her husband’s death. She taught elementary school at Thomas Jefferson and Louis Sheffield and spent the majority of her teaching career at Henry F. Kite, all in Jacksonville. She then moved to Fernandina Beach to be near her son and family. Kathleen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Theo Spicer, one sister and two brothers.
She leaves behind her son, Tommy Spicer (Susan) of Fernandina Beach; daughter, Sharon Mileshko (Tom) of Woodstock, Ga.; four grandchildren, Sarah Spicer Lee (David), Will Spicer (Ashley), Chris Mileshko (Carey), and Jordan Mileshko (Stephanie); and six great-grandchildren with one due to arrive in December.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2019 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors, located at 1305 Atlantic Ave. in Fernandina Beach. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at Oxley-Heard. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Bill, in Green Pine Cemetery in Yulee, Fla.
The family requests that memorials be made in her name to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
