Thelma LaVerne (Harrison) Lewis went to be with her Lord on March 17, 2016 in St. Marys, Georgia. Miss Thelma was a resident of the very caring Magnolia Manor Assisted Living Center at the time of her passing. Miss Thelma was born on August 17, 1918 in Halcyondale, Georgia. Her parents were Philip and Valrie (Evans) Harrison. Miss Thelma was preceded in death by her two husbands, Chesley Whitley and L.V. Lewis, both of whom were veterans of World War II. She is survived by both of her siblings, Burdelle Mobley of Augusta, Georgia and Philip "Bill" Harrison of Halcyondale, Georgia.

Miss Thelma is also survived by her only son, Hal C. Whitley (Patricia) of Fernandina Beach, Florida and two grandchildren Ivory Mulholland (Patrick) of Pinehurst, North Carolina and Jacob Whitley of Fairbanks, Alaska. There will be a memorial service for Miss Thelma at 11 AM on March 31, Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Miss Thelma was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach for sixty years. She loved singing in the choir and had wonderful friends in her beloved Sunday School class. She taught first grade schoolchildren for twenty five years and loved every minute of it. She loved playing piano, right up to the time of her death, both gospel and contemporary music.

She was a prolific poet and wrote her poems primarily for her friends and families comfort and support with great imagination and creativity. She also enjoyed both oil and water paintings.

Miss Thelma was a wonderful Mother and a friend of anyone she ever met. Whether on the phone or in person she always unselfishly asked "What can I do for you?". She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that we all will miss.
