Karen Marie Dober Hurbean

Ms. Karen Marie Dober Hurbean, 66, of Fernandina Beach, left us suddenly on Monday morning, Aug. 8, 2016.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, she was the last living child born to the late Floyd James and Donna Steinhour Dober. Raised in the Columbus area, she was a graduate of The Ohio State University with both undergraduate and master’s degrees in public policy. She worked for approximately 30 years as a legislative heath care adviser for the Ohio State Legislature before retiring. She moved to Fernandina Beach in 2000 and worked in the Budget and Finance Departments with Nassau County and the city of Fernandina Beach. She later worked with Edward Jones as an office manager in the Yulee office until 2012. She also served as treasurer of the Yulee Optimist Club for several years and as an active member of the Nassau Humane Society.
She was a concerned citizen of her community and an effective environmentalist who loved wildlife, especially turtles, birds and Roseate spoonbills. Anyone who knew her had to admire her wit, generosity, intelligence and determination. She will never be replaced, and this community will miss her sorely.
She leaves behind her longtime companion, Anthony “Tony” Miller; her Irish setter, “Jake”; and many dear friends.
A time to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
Please share her Life Legacy and leave your memories and condolences at www.oxleyheard.com.
