Margaret “Joan” Yancey, 80, of Amelia Island, and formerly of Harrisonburg, Va., passed away Sept. 17, 2016, at Osprey Village on Amelia Island.
She was born June 20, 1936, in Mathias, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Mary Lena Snider Caldwell Tewalt and Guyser E. Caldwell.
On June 25, 1961, she married Edward C. Yancey, who preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1975.
Joan was a 1954 graduate of Mathias High School, and a 1956 graduate of Maryland Medical Secretarial School and, over the course of her long career in medical offices, worked for numerous Harrisonburg physicians. She was a lifelong member of the Mathias Brethren Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Y. Raker (John) of Fernandina Beach; one granddaughter, Sarah Grace McCormick of Jacksonville; three sisters, Mary Martha Good of Harrisonburg, Jane Robinson of Mathias and Nancy Zirk (Jim) of Harrisonburg; one brother; William Caldwell (Pat); one brother-in-law, Joe C. Yancey of Harrisonburg; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be held at a later time in Virginia. In Florida, Oxley-Heard is serving the family. Condolences may be sent online or by postal mail.
