Michael John Smith, 68, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Mr. Smith was born in Kirkland, Wash., the son of the late Michael and Jeannie Smith. He grew up in Jacksonville, where he graduated from Ribault High School in 1966. He attended the University of Miami and then served honorably in the U.S. Marine Reserve. Mr. Smith retired after 30 years as the automobile service adviser at Mike Davidson Ford in Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jennie Lightsey.
He leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Margie T. Smith; his daughter, Heather (Shane) Burris of Kingsland; his brothers-in-law, Billy Rogers and Arthur Torley; three grandsons, Dylan, Brady and Layton Burris; and three nieces, Donna LasDulce, Rene Rawlings and Jenifer Whitter.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard.
