Harry E. "Doc" Jones Sr., 80, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2016, at his Yulee residence.
He was born April 30, 1936, in Sterlington, La., and had been a resident of Yulee for the past 60 years. Mr. Jones retired after 42 years of employment at Container Corporation in Fernandina Beach. He was a journeyman millwright and was well-respected by all of his peers. He coached Yulee Little League baseball for six years and enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was a fan of LSU sports. Mr. Jones was of the Baptist faith.
He was predeceased by his son, Jessie Sam "Buster" Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jimmie M. Jones; sons, William E. Jones (Rena), Roger W. Jones (Dee), Harry E. Jones Jr. (Paula) and George R. Jones (Christina), all of Yulee; a daughter, Debby J. Steele (Thad) of Fernandina Beach; a brother, William L. Jones of Yulee; one sister, Cleva White of Monroe, La.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family received friends Monday evening, Nov. 21, at Green Pine Funeral Home.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 22, at Green Pine Cemetery with the Rev. Pete Jones officiating.
