
Joseph Gregory Brown Sr., affectionately known as “Joe,” “Greg” and “Little Daddy,” 63, of Fernandina Beach, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Born in Fernandina on Aug. 1, 1953, he was one of four children and the only son born in his family. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School and later attended auto body repair and welding schools.
Mr. Brown worked at Container Corporation of America for more than 40 years before retiring as a foreman in the shipping department in 2015.
He enjoyed surf fishing on our local beaches, watching both college and NFL football, and bowling in Yulee.
He had attended New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalee Hayes.
He leaves behind his wife, Sheila A. Brown of Fernandina Beach; children, Joseph Brown Jr. of Jacksonville, Timothy Brown and his wife, Carol, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Keith Brown and his wife, Marcia, of El Paso, Texas, Brian Foote of Jacksonville, Eric Foote and his wife, Monette, of Fernandina Beach, and Courtney Foote of Yulee; sisters, Angel Butler of Bradenton and Vanessa Dawson of Fernandina Beach; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a special mom, Rosalee Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at First Assembly of God of Fernandina Beach with Pastor Bernard Thompson officiating.
Mr. Brown will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 6, from 5-7 p.m. at Oxley-Heard.
