Patricia Hamer Bridges, 92, passed away peacefully at the Warner Center for Caring on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017.

Patricia was born Aug. 18, 1924, to Ruth Woodall Hamer and Norman Hamer in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As an infant, she moved with her family to Grosse Pointe, Mich., where she lived until high school. Patricia graduated from Palm Beach High School, West Palm Beach, in 1942 and attended Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University), where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1943, she married Capt. Merle David Bridges Jr., a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps.

Patricia spent many years working in the insurance industry for Cornelius, Johnson & Clark Insurance agents in West Palm Beach as accounting manager. When she retired in 1989 at age 65, she continued to work part-time for Richard Johnson until she was 85. In 2010, she moved to Amelia Island to live with her daughter Nancy. Patricia always loved the beach and particularly loved living on Amelia Island. An avid lifelong reader, she was a member of the Books Plus Book Club.

Patricia is survived by her children, Nancy Bridges Maxwell of Fernandina Beach, Robert (Norma) David Bridges of Jacksonville and Seven Devils, N.C., and Joanne (Andrew) Bridges Harrell of Orlando; grandchildren, Robyn (Ed) Bridges Fletcher of Raleigh, N.C., Jay P. Layman Jr. of Jacksonville, David Scott (Timona) Bridges of Los Angeles, Heather (Rob) Maxwell Rohe of Fernandina Beach, and Taylor Bridges Harrell of Gainesville; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Brandon, Brooke and Tommy Bridges of Los Angeles.
