
A.A. "Papa" Dixon, 88, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the Community Hospice Warner Center in Fernandina Beach.
He was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Callahan, and was a lifelong Nassau County resident.
He was a member of Nassau Baptist Temple, where he served in a variety of functions, including deacon, R.A. counselor, church board member, church bus driver and youth leader. He was also a Nassau County special deputy.
Mr. Dixon loved life and loving helping people. He was the foundation of his family and was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a collector, collecting guns, coins and other things. He loved his tractors, fruit trees and grapevines.
Mr. Dixon was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Dixon, who passed away in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Lamarr A. Dixon (Cindy "Sid") of Yulee; five daughters, Darlene Everett of Patterson, Ga., Pam Dixon McLucas (Daniel) of Yulee, Ruby "Boo Boo" Pittman of Fargo, Ga., Georgette Lee of Jacksonville and Jeannie "Best Girl" Dixon of Yulee; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 4, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Interment followed in Green Pine Cemetery. The family received friends Monday evening, April 3, at the funeral home.
