After a courageous battle with a lengthy illness, Bonnie J. Tanner, 75, of Palatka, passed away with her children by her side in Fernandina Beach on Thursday evening, April 6, 2017.
Born in eastern Kentucky, Bonnie was predeceased by her husband, James of Palatka; her parents, Ada and William Couch; and two brothers, Kenneth and Delmas, all of Jeffersonville, Ind.
She leaves behind a sister, Checheetah Courtney of Clarksville, Ind.
Bonnie will be deeply missed by her children, Steven “Eric” Childers (Robin) and Judie Mackie (Lawrence); and her grandchildren, Amanda Taylor (Jonathan), Jeffery “Alex” Watts (Erica) and Allison Mackie. Sorrowful friends and family include several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Retired from AT&T, Bonnie was well-traveled, and she enjoyed sewing and cooking, though she admitted never acquiring efficiency of the latter. She was involved in her local VFW Auxiliary, was a past member of the Fernandina Pirates Club, and an avid supporter of organizations helping abused or abandoned pets.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at sea, for family and friends, later this year.
