Mr. William Raymond Mooney, 79, Yulee, passed away on Monday afternoon, July 31, 2017 at his home. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of Albert and Marie Fox Mooney. He grew up in the Bowery Section of Manhattan and at an early age learned the importance of hard work, determination and family. Upon completing high school, he began a long career working in the tool and die manufacturing business. He worked for a local business owner in Manhattan until opening his own business, Mooney’s Seal Company, in 1974. Mr. Mooney continued to run this business until retiring in 1995. Upon retiring, he and his wife lived in Kissimmee, Fla., for over 10 years before relocating to Cary, N.C., where they lived for 12 years. Yulee has been home since early 2017.
In 1963, he had married Dolores Hackenbrock. They lived in Brooklyn until moving in 1974 to the Massapeque Park, Long Island, where they raised their children.
He had attended St. Rosa of Lima Catholic Church in Manhattan.
Mr. Mooney will be remembered for his devotion and commitment to the support of his family and his love of whistling and singing. In his later years, he derived great pleasure from the laughter and spirit of friendly competition playing cards with his wife and family.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Dolores Mooney; their children, Linda Burdett and her husband, Mike, Cary, N.C., Dianna Anderson and her husband, Jeff, Bell Port, N.Y., Bill Mooney and his wife, Stephanie, Fernandina Beach; and eight grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Brittany, Benjamin, William II, Cody, Zoey and Billy.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Fernandina Beach, with the Reverend Father Jose Kallukalam, Celebrant.
His family will receive friends following the service at a reception to be held at the home of his son.
