Mark Alan Mulrain

Mark Alan Mulrain, 69, a longtime resident of Fernandina Beach, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Signature Health Care in Jacksonville. Born in Port Jefferson, N.Y., Mr. Mulrain was one of two sons born to Samuel Mulrain and the late Mina Larson Mulrain. Before moving to Fernandina Beach, he was resident of Jacksonville. 

In his younger life, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He received his bachelor of science degree from Berry College in Rome, Ga. and later received his master of science degree from Tennessee Technical University in Cookeville, Tenn. Mr. Mulrain was a veteran of the U. S. Army who served in Vietnam.

Mr. Mulrain was an agent for Northwestern Mutual Insurance for 43 years. He was known and respected in his profession. As a result of his hard work and diligence, he was recognized as a Lifetime Member of the Millionaires’ Roundtable and was the recipient of numerous National Sales Achievement Awards from Northwestern Mutual.

Mr. Mulrain was an active member of Journey Church in Fernandina Beach. His family and friends will remember him for his flashy and colorful dress, always wondering what he might wear next. His family will always lovingly think about his passion for gardening, including tending to his flowers and bonsai, his love of hunting and fishing, as well as the simple enjoyment he had in chopping wood.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mina Mulrain, and his brother, Jeffry A. Mulrain. He leaves behind his wife, Donna Kinard Rice, Fernandina Beach; his father, Samuel Mulrain, Hilton Head, S.C.; his children, Spencer L. Mulrain and Mary Ann Blalock, both of Savannah, Ga.; his step-children, Melissa R. Rice, Gainesville, Fla., and Michael Rice and his wife, Ragen, Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren, Camille Graham, Savannah, Ga., Nathan Slater, High Springs, Fla., Bella Rice, Lola Rice and Campton Rice, all of Baton Rouge, La.; and two nephews, Jeffry A. and John W. Mulrain, both of Jacksonville. 

Services to remember Mr. Mulrain’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors with Elder Jim Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends beginning between 10 a.m. and the hour of the service. Mr. Mulrain will be laid to rest at the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C. at a later date.
