Mary Tom Willis Drew

Mary Tom Willis Drew, 80, of Fernandina Beach passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Mrs. Drew was born on January 29, 1937 in Stevenson, Ala., the daughter of the late John O. and Edna Cameron Willis.

She spent her early years in Stevenson and graduated from Stevenson High School. She enrolled in Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn., where she graduated with a bachelor degree in education. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teaching Sorority. In 1959, she moved to Fernandina Beach and began her teaching career at Fernandina Elementary and Middle School.

Mrs. Drew also assisted at the Avondale Florist, which was owned by her mother. She was active in The Daughters of the American Revolution and was a longtime member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Drew was also an active member of the Republican Executive Committee and was the seventh registered Republican in Nassau County.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe H. Drew, on October 22, 2013.

Mrs. Drew leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Larry Howard of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and her son and daughter-in-law, John M. Drew and Catherine Hardee Drew of Yulee; her three grandsons, Cameron and Chandler Young and Joseph Drew; her former student and lifelong companion,  friend and confidant, Arlene Green.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Oxley-Heard.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fernandina Beach with Rev. Wain Wesberry officiating. The pallbearers will be Robert and Terry Fiege, Danny and Bill Leeper, John Mazzella, Scott Gearis, Bubba Chauncey and Butch Osbourne. Honorary escort will be The Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Drew will be laid to rest beside her husband in the family plot in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
