Jimmie Earl McCollum, 81, of Fernandina Beach went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 21, 2017.
Jimmie was born in 1936 in Columbia, Mo. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from General Motors in St. Louis, Mo. and enjoyed playing golf with friends. He moved to Fernandina Beach in 2006 after meeting his wife, Jamie, through American World War Orphan Network. Both of their fathers were killed in action in Germany during World War II on the same day approximately 20 miles apart. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, where he loved to volunteer his time and talents. Jimmie took pleasure in spending time with family and working in the yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 45 years, and one sister.
Jimmie leaves behind his wife, Jamie Duke McCollum; sister, Joyce Reynolds; four children, Randy McCollum, Karen Starr, Cherie Eldridge (Dave) and Jamie McCollum (Kelley); four step-children, Cindy Naismith (Chuck), Elizabeth Jones, Walter Bridges and John Bridges; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
