GySgt. Harold Dean Bargeron Sr.

Gunnery Sergeant Harold Dean Bargeron Sr., 82, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Fla. after a valiant two-year battle with cancer.

He was one of 20 children born to the late Benjamin and Katie (Amerson) Bargeron on August 14, 1935 in Lyons, Ga.

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with distinction from 1952 to 1973, serving proudly in Vietnam. He retired as a gunnery sergeant.

He enjoyed fishing and watching Gunsmoke, The Andy Griffith Show and Wheel of Fortune. He loved all animals – especially his favorite four-legged daughter “Cricket.”

Mr. Bargeron is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Katie Bargeron; wife, Bobbie Jean Bargeron; daughter, Tami Molligi; grandson, Kelly Mixon; and all of his siblings.

He leaves behind his children, Pam (Ray) Lory, Elizabeth Laycock, Shontelle (David) Hardy and Harold (Julie) Bargeron Jr.; stepsons, Tony (Marie) Brown and Stan (Claudia) Brown; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends he loved with all his heart.

He was very devoted to all his children and will always be in their hearts.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 in the Burgess Chapel with Pastor Frank Camarotti officiating.

The family received friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Oxley-Heard. He was laid to rest in Green Pine Cemetery with full military honors.
