Bernice Elaine Thompson

Bernice Elaine Thompson, a lifelong resident of Nassau County, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2018, at the age of 62.

She was born October 23, 1955 in Kings Ferry, Fla. to the late John Hardy and Beatrice Thompson. She received some early educational studies at Pine Forest School in Callahan, Fla. Due to her physical disabilities, she began to attend the Sunland Training Center in Gainesville, Fla., where she received additional training. She also obtained additional training at the ARC in Yulee, Fla., where she had dedicated bus drivers, Freddie Mason and Hosea Palmer.

Elaine gave her life to God at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Kings Ferry, where she attended faithfully until her relocation. At this time, she begin to attend faithfully Covered Ministries Hour of Power in Kingsland, Ga. Her cherished hobbies included making rugs, creating things with her popsicle sticks, watching Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless and, most importantly, looking out the window to see who was passing or coming to visit.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were brothers, Eddie Lee Thompson, James Abraham Thompson and John “Buddy” Hardy Thompson Jr.

On the morning of January 2, the trumpet sounded and the fiery chariot came down; Bernice Elaine Thompson stepped into eternity and found her home with the Lord.

She leaves to cherish her memory and embrace her legacy, sisters, Jereline (Lawrence) Williams, Grace (Charles) Mitchell, Willie Mae (John) Ewing, Katrina (Granderson) Davis, Dorothy Richo, Evelyn Jordan, Edna Brown and Thelma Albertie; brothers, Sammie Lee (Kay) Thompson, Willie (Eva) Thompson, Kalvin (Eron) Thompson and  George (Elizabeth) Thompson; sisters-in-law, Verdell Thompson, Robin Thompson and Thelma Thompson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowful friends, including special friends Agnes Reynolds, Agnes Scipio, Janet Bocash, Larry Quick, Altamese Thompson, and Vernereal Thompson.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, located at 49167 Mt. Olive Road in Hilliard (Kings Ferry),  Fla. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018, and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the church. Interment immediately following service will be in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.
