Martin Edward Porter, a long-time resident of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away quietly on Saturday morning, January 20, 2018, at the age of 83.
He was born in Dundee, Fla. to the late John D. and Edna M. (Halstead) Porter.
Martin was an avid Gator’s fan who had enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and other sports. After graduating from Fernandina Beach High School, Martin joined the United States Air Force, where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and was crew chief on B-47 bombers. Following honorable discharge, Martin returned to Fernandina Beach and retired after 34 years as a printing press operator for Container Corporation of America.
Martin is survived by his brother, Bruce Porter (Renee); nephews, Jack Wiggins and Martin Wiggins (Julianne); and grand-nephew, Chris Wiggins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Oxley-Heard. Interment will be at Bosque Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach.
