Mia Nichole Jackson Washington, affectionately known as "Nikki," passed away suddenly on October 24, 2018, at the UF Health Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. at the age of 51.

She was born September 13, 1967 to Robert and Edna McCrimon Jackson. She graduated in 1985 from Fernandina Beach High School in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Friends who knew Nikki well talked about her ability to “burn” or cook, a skill inherited from her grandmother and legendary “burner,” Ella Mae.

Indeed, “friend” is a word often used to describe Nikki. Remarkably, in less than two hours after news of her death began to spread, over 50 Facebook posts could be counted.

Nikki was preceded in death by her mother, Edna McCrimon Jackson; her grandparents, Ella Mae and Theodore McCrimon; and her father, Robert Jackson Sr.

Left to cherish Nikki’s memory are her sons, Lance, Chance and Vance “Mista” Deleslie, the sons of Emanuel Deleslie; daughter-in-law, Ashley; and her 10-month old grandson, Ky’Von Deleslie. She had 13 half and stepsisters and brothers, Robert Jackson Jr., Mary Alice Jackson (deceased), Dorothy Jackson (deceased), Kelvin Jackson, Jerline Jones, Shera Dinkins, George Allen, Brittany Allen, Patrice Allen, Charlie Allen (Terri), Kenneth McClendon (Sheree), Debra Elliot (James), and James Woods (Paulette).

She had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, including Jeanette McCrimon Billips, Linda McCrimon, Jeremiah Mitchell, Eddie Mitchell, and Dr. Joanne Mitchell Martin, who along with her husband, the late Dr. Elmer Martin, had the honor of being the godparents not only to Nikki but to her three sons as well. Add to this list her aunts and uncles, Mary (Johnny B.) Patterson, Lisbon Bartley, Diann Bartley, Ray (Sonya) Bartley, and Wayne (Theadessa) Williams.

Numerous other relatives and friends are holding her lovingly in their memories.

A viewing and funeral service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Solid Rock Church of God by Faith in Yulee, Fla. The viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral at 11 a.m.

Johnelle Foley Snyder

Johnelle Foley Snyder passed away October 25, 2018 in Amelia Island, Florida.

She was born July 11, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minn. to her wonderful parents, John and Irma Foley. She grew up in Edina, Minn. and attended Our Lady of Grace Grade School and St. Margaret’s Academy High School. Johnelle received her undergraduate degree from Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Ill. and obtained her master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Minnesota. In her graduate school class, Johnelle was one of the three first women accepted into the program. Prior to this class, female students had been nuns affiliated with Catholic hospitals.

Johnelle’s professional career included serving as associate administrator of University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics and as the executive director of the Minnesota Association of Public Teaching Hospitals. She authored several published articles on subjects involving teaching hospitals and served on a variety of boards, including The Women’s Health Leadership Trust, The Downtown Minneapolis (No. 9) Rotary Club, Norwest Bank – Central Ave, Lafayette Country Club, the Minneapolis Chapter of the MS Society, the Medical Alley Association, and the Alumni Association of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Johnelle retired in 1995. In her leisure time Johnelle loved boating on Lake Minnetonka and downhill skiing anywhere in the world, but especially in Vail, Colo., where she “sabbaticaled” for a year following graduate school. Once introduced to golf, she loved her family of friends at Edina Country Club. Johnelle also had a “fun career” doing runway modeling for many of the fine stores and boutiques in the Twin Cities. In 1972, she represented Minnesota in the Miss USA World Pageant in Newport News, Va., placing fourth.

Mrs. Snyder was first preceded in death by her husband, Dennis A. Bowman, Esq., in 1997. In 2014, she lost her second loving husband, Gary L. Snyder. Gary and Johnelle met in a grief support group, both having lost their spouses to cancer. In 2004, Gary and Johnelle moved from Minneapolis to Amelia Island. Together they enjoyed their many friends on the island and became involved in such activities as The Golf Club of Amelia Island, The Rotary Club of Fernandina Beach, St. Michael Catholic Church, The Amelia Island Museum of History, Micah’s Place and Amelia Residents in Support of the Symphony. Their love of the performing arts prompted the Snyders to be actively involved in the funding for the construction of the new venue for the Amelia Community Theatre (ACT). Similarly, in Minneapolis, they were major donors contributing to the building of the world-renowned Guthrie Theatre. In 2012, Gary and Johnelle were instrumental in founding the Amelia Island Chapter of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international gastronomic society first established in 1248 in Paris. On Jan. 27, 2018, Johnelle was awarded the Chaîne Star of Excellence for distinguished service to the Bailliage of Amelia Island. The Snyders loved each other deeply and adored doing everything together. Their special shared passion was travel and that passion took them literally everywhere in the world. They knew they were blessed to have each other. They loved life, family and friends and truly cherished each day they had together.

Survivors include Johnelle’s sister, Mary Lee Stephenson and her children, Colleen Upton, Kevin (Diane) Healy, and Michael Healy, and their children, Aidan, Molly, Megan, Matthew, Jack and Sean, all of Minneapolis. She is also survived by stepdaughter, Shelly (Tom) Halverson of Maple Grove, Minn., and their sons, Andrew (Emily) of Minneapolis and Aaron of Plymouth, Minn.

There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2018 at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church with lunch to follow. Johnelle Foley Snyder will be entombed, next to Gary, in the mausoleum at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn. following a service there.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

Barbi Coyne

One of the most beautiful women to ever walk this earth has been called home by God.

Barbi Coyne, 55, born Barbara Ann Marcille, went to join God on Monday, November 5, 2018. Barbi passed at her home in Yulee, Fla., surrounded by her family, friends and a tremendous amount of love. She fought with all of her being to conquer colon cancer first diagnosed July 25 of this year, but God needed her help in heaven.

Barbi was born May 19, 1963 in Norwalk, Conn. to Phil and Kathy Marcille. She spent her childhood growing up on Old Zoar Road in Monroe, Conn. She spent three years living and working in Easley, S.C. and moved to Boothbay Harbor, Maine in 1990 after becoming divorced. She met her current husband and soul mate, Brian Coyne, in 1996 in Boothbay Harbor, and they married in 1997 in Boothbay.

Her father, Phil, predeceased her four years ago, and she is survived by her mother, Kathy Marcille; her most precious stepmother, Nancy Marcille; brothers, Billy Marcille and Brian Worthing; her sisters, Tara Wichenbach and Chris Parsons; her two children, Scott Dykhuis and Jennifer Ward; her two grandchildren, Roslynn and Reagan Dykhuis; and seven step-grandchildren.

First and foremost, Barbi was a mother and grandmother. A mother who would build little fairy houses in the yard and sprinkle fairy dust and write notes from the fairies in gold pens for her little girl. Anything her children tried she would support with all of her heart. She nurtured them and encouraged them at every turn of their lives and their success is a testament to her efforts. And her grandchildren were her greatest love beyond words. She and her husband, Brian, moved to Florida because one of her dreams was to be a part of their lives and her nurturing through these last 10 years has been one of her greatest accomplishments. Her love for them will last through eternity.

The world has lost a true force of nature and will be a much sadder place for it. A book could be written about her and how she touched so many lives and made everyone around her happy to be near her. She was a crusader for abused women. From her involvement in the domestic abuse shelter in Lincoln County, Maine, where she launched her crusade and ended up giving lectures on the subject to the Maine State Police and making appearances on several Maine radio stations, she carried her crusade to Texas when she and Brian moved there and ended up being the president of the Matagorda and Wharton counties women’s shelters. She turned a rundown program into one of the best programs in the state of Texas and continued giving lectures to the Texas Rangers and sheriff departments in several counties. She brought her crusade to Florida and just recently stepped down as the chair of the board of Micah’s Place, the women’s shelter here in Nassau County.

She was a powerful businesswoman. She helped Hodgdon Yachts in East Boothbay become the success they are today. She worked with them when there were only 35 employees and built their Human Resources Department into a modern company facet as their numbers grew beyond 100 employees. She represented the Boothbay region on the Maine Marine Trades Association and was a guest lecturer at the Maine Marine Academy. When she moved to Texas, she started her dream of being a self-employed QuickBooks Pro advisor. Along the way, she worked with the Matagorda County Small Business Development Corporation and helped develop many small companies throughout the south Texas area. She carried many QuickBooks customers with her when she moved to Florida and continued to help her Texas clients through remote computer access.

In Nassau County, Fla., she grew into a larger-than-life dynamo. Her magnetic personality, her drive, her friendship and her genuine caring for people made her a force that could not be ignored. She had customers all over northeast Florida and up into southern Georgia. Her business territory stretched almost 100 miles from north to south. One of her passions was teaching QuickBooks to other people. She was an adjunct professor at Florida State College at Jacksonville, where she taught classes on QuickBooks. She also taught classes for both the Nassau and Clay counties’ Small Business Development Center and the Jacksonville city government. Her dedication, ethics and caring ways turned many of her clients from business customers to close friends.

But her true devotion was for the organization of Rotary. She was a very active member of the Rotary Club Amelia Island Sunrise, had been the club treasurer for the last six years and loved doing it.

Besides her pride in being a Paul Harris Fellow, her greatest honor was being named the very first recipient of the Amelia Island Sunrise Rotarian of the Year award, of which she was not just proud but humbled and ever so appreciative. The whole concept of the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” fit into her beliefs and lifestyle, and she was a part of every fundraiser and volunteer activity. She made many people true believers in the Rotary mission and was recognized as a friend and promoter by many other Rotary clubs throughout District 6970, which stretches from the Georgia state line to Daytona. She always strived to be the best at whatever she did and was very proud to be a graduate of Rotary Leadership Institute graduate classes.

And lastly, she was a wife, her husband’s truest friend, companion, teacher and so much more that words cannot describe. Her husband and all of her family feel truly blessed and honored to have been part of her life journey and to have shared so many years of love, laughter, tears, triumphs and life experiences with her. She will be eternally loved and greatly missed by all of who have known her.

If you wish to honor her memory, donations can be made to Micah’s Place, P.O. Box 16287, Fernandina Beach, FL 32035.

He and his wife, Alma, owned Pruitt Realty & Rentals, where they managed numerous rental properties during the 1980s and 1990s. He later worked for Nassau County in the Tax Collector’s Office and the Property Appraiser’s Office.

John was generous with his time and talents. During his lifetime, he volunteered in several organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Nassau County Mental Health Alliance. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. An avid outdoorsman, he loved boating, fishing, horticulture and all animals, especially dogs. John also loved classic country music and made many trips to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. However, his greatest joy in life came from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was predeceased by his parents, Zan and Annie-John Pruitt; his brother, Prentice Pruitt; and grandsons, John Curtis “JC” Page and Christopher Moody.

He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Alma; three daughters, Kimberly (David) Page of Fernandina Beach, Laree (Sonny) Moody of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Patricia Pruitt of Fernandina Beach; and grandchildren, Annie (Austin) Barnhill of Fernandina Beach, Laura Page of Fernandina Beach, Samantha Moody of Rockledge, Fla., Michael Moody of Richmond, Va., Ashley (Michael) Peeples of Yulee, Fla., Sarah Simmons of Yulee, and Halie (Christian) Boetcher of Lewis Port, Ky. He also leaves behind two brothers, Gene Pruitt and Jerry Pruitt, both of LaGrange, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
