Jean Stevens was called into eternal life January 19, 2019 at age 88, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born in Wisconsin, where she raised her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up. Later, she moved to Fernandina Beach, where she enjoyed swimming, gardening, and taking in the beauty of nature. When she wasn't tending to her yard, Jean spent much of her time in the kitchen, as she loved to cook and bake. Jean was able to explore her love of different cuisines throughout her worldly travels. She was passionate about seeing other parts of the world, experiencing new cultures, and traditions and meeting new people. Whether riding an elephant in India or aboard a cruise ship, she thoroughly enjoyed each and every trip she took.

Though Jean appreciated all of the spontaneity that comes along with adventure, she also valued the familiarity of home. She found comfort in spending time with treasured family, friends, and co-workers.

Aside from her role as mother and grandmother, Jean always took great pride in her work. She worked numerous jobs throughout her life, but most recently and just up until a few months ago, Jean was a proud employee of the Beachside Motel.

She had a kind heart, gentle spirit, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward.

She was the beloved mother of Thomas and Lynn (Greg), cherished grandmother of Kari (Rich), Kristy, and Kelly, and great-grandmother to Jakob, Julia, and Joseph. She is further survived by family and friends.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Amelia Island Plantation Chapel, to be followed by a Celebration of Life at Walker’s Landing (also located in Amelia Island Plantation).

Zell Gloria Green-Johnson

On Tuesday, Feburary 19, 2019, Zell Gloria Green-Johnson, of Kansas City, Mo., transitioned from her earthly life of 66 years into her eternal paradise with Jehovah God.

Zell Gloria Green-Johnson was born August 10, 1952 to the union of Sank and Albertha Green in Fernandina Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Sank Green; two brothers, Vander Brown Jr. and Eddie Lee Brown; two sisters, Gloria Dean Jenkins and Earline Green; a brother-in-law, George Dean Jenkins; and a sister-in-law, Ruby M. Brown. She was the youngest of eight children.

Zell attended Peck High School in Fernandina Beach and graduated in 1970. She was active in sports (she loved basketball), softball, bowling, and roller-skating. During high school, Zell won many trophies for playing girls basketball and won the team’s Sweetheart Pageant. After graduating high school, Zell decided to move from Florida to Kansas City to attend Eastern Airlines Flight Attendant School. Before moving to Kansas City, Zell met William Henry Johnson, and on April 24, 1971, they would marry. In that same year, Zell left flight attendant school and began working for AT&T on December 6, 1971, as a data processing analyst. Zell loved working for AT&T and made many friends while working there.

Zell always wanted to have a family so she could show them the same love her mother showed to her.

Zell’s wish would come true on January 2, 1974, when she gave birth to her one and only son, Demetrius Jatone Johnson. She loved Demetrius so much and ensured she showed him every day how much he meant to her. Zell built a wonderful and joyous life for Demetrius and herself, traveling the world, teaching him the importance of being good to others, sharing her love of sports, and teaching him everything she knew about life. While raising “Tone,” as she usually called him, Zell continued to work for AT&T until she retired on August 12, 2005 after 33 years. After retirement, Zell didn’t slow down; she continued her love for Jehovah God and became a bus monitor for the KCMO school district.

Zell was a kind, loving, compassionate member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 49 years with a quick wit and sense of humor who would give everything she had to help someone. Zell would travel to conventions with Josephine and Clarence (brother and sister) all over the United States. She was deeply loved and held in high esteem by her family and friends for her service to Jehovah God and her unwavering support she provided to her family.

Zell leaves to cherish her loving memory her son and his wife, Demetrius and Callie Johnson; co-mother-in-law, Tammy Thomas; her mother, Albertha Green; three sisters and their husbands, Albertha and Johnny Aikens, Josephine and Robert McKinney, and Johnnie Mae Brown; her brother, Clarence M. Brown; two grandchildren, Jordan and Alayla Johnson; and a host of her many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends, all of whom she loved and touched deeply.

Eleanore M. Simon passed away March 24, 2019 at the age of 107 in the loving presence of her son and daughter-in-law.

Eleanore was born July 25, 1911 (Ella Mayerhoffer) in Cleveland, Ohio, where she resided for more than 80 years. After living in Atlanta for eight years, she came to Amelia Island, Fla., where for the past 15 years she lived with her son and daughter-in-law.

She worked in a bomber plant during World War II and as a bookkeeper for a family business in Cleveland. She was a wonderful wife and homemaker for her husband, Joseph, for 62 years, and a loving mother to her only child, Joseph. She was a tennis player, reader, knitter, accomplished cook specializing in German food, and the consummate friend. During the final week of her life, she received more than 100 cards and letters of support.

Eleanore was a member of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta and, after moving to Amelia, the Amelia Plantation Chapel.

In honor of Eleanor’s 107th birthday, Rep. John Rutherford conducted a small ceremony for her and presented Eleanore with an American flag that had flown over the U.S. capitol building and a citation read into the Congressional Record. Eleanore drove her own golf cart to that ceremony, the same cart she drove to her aquarobics class until a few months before her passing.

Eleanore was preceded in death by her mother and father, Teresa and Martin Mayerhoffer; and her sister, Anne Oberacker.

Eleanore is survived by her son, Joseph E. Simon, M.D.; daughter-in-law, Carol Gilfillan, M.D.; grandchildren and their spouses, Eric Simon (Christen Simon) and Jennifer Simon, LLD (James Shilkett); her great-grandchild, Jonah Shilkett; and her nephew, Martin Oberacker (Margo).

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 6, 2019 at the Amelia Plantation Chapel with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Eleanore’s honor to the Amelia Plantation Chapel.

Her online obituary is available at the greenpinefuneral.com, where condolences may be left for her family.
