Mr. Stephen “Steve” Raszkin, age 64, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Thursday morning, May 19, 2016, at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach.
Born in Jacksonville, he was the eldest of two children and only son born to the late, Siegmund and Evelyn Janice Silberkraus Raszkin. Mr. Raszkin grew up on the southside of Jacksonville, attended The Bolles School and was a graduate of Englewood High School, Class of 1970. After high school he attended the University of Florida where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. His professional passion and interest led him into the Wine and Spirits Industry, where he became a respected authority on the Wines of the World. He worked for various suppliers and distributors throughout his career; in the Jacksonville area and for 30 years in Houston, Texas. Upon returning to Jacksonville in 2007, he began formulating his plans of owning his own wine store. These plans cams to fruition in June of 2012 as he and his wife, Donna, opened their store “Taste of Wine by Steve.”
Mr. Raszkin devoted much time to the community where he lived and worked; as a Director of the Fernandina Beach Chamber of Commerce and fund raising participant with the Rotary Club, Humane Society and Friends of the Library.
He leaves behind, his wife, Donna J. Raszkin, Fernandina Beach, FL, their children, Seth Raszkin, Houston, TX, Zachery Raszkin, Fernandina Beach, FL, Shea White, Jacksonville, FL, Dylan White, Jacksonville, FL, his sister, Fay Frint (Kenny), Yulee ,FL, two grandchildren, MacKenzie and Aiden White as well as a nephew, Joseph Frint and a niece, Sheri Frint.
Funeral services were at 11:00 am on Monday, May 23, 2016 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard with Reverend Terry Gore, officiating. Graveside services were held at 3:30 pm in Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville. His family received friends on Monday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 am until the hour of service.
