
Julius La Grant Raysor, of Woodbine, Ga. and formerly of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away July 7, 2018 in St. Marys, Ga.
Julius was born July 9, 1937 to the late George and Nettie Lee Dallas Raysor in Woodbine, Ga. To this union, 11 children were born. Julius was the eldest son. He attended Peck High School. His love for auto racing began on American Beach. He was an avid Sunday racer. He also raced at the Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla. Just attending the Talladega racing circuit was a dream come true for him. During his years of employment, he was an auto mechanic and shrimper. He retired from the Rayonier mill in Fernandina Beach after 31 years of employment. Julius met and married Lenoar Hamilton, his wife of 16 years who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Laverene Raysor Johnson (Junior); three stepchildren whom he raised as his own, Shontrell Reed of Raleigh, N.C., Shalena Hawkins (Clifford) of Albany, Ga., and Vincent Reed of Baton Rouge, La.; in-laws, Herbert and Lottie Mae Hamilton of White Oak, Ga.; five sisters, Sarah Walker of Wavery, Ga., Geneva (John) Terry of Fernandina Beach, Judieth Raysor of Oregon, Michelle (Henry) Passmore of Grand Fork, N.D., and Anita (Jerry) Timmons of Fernandina Beach; brothers, James (Jacqueline) Raysor of Greenbush, N.Y., Robert (Lydia) of Trenton, N.J., George (Thelma) Raysor of Fernandina Beach, John Herman (Diane) Raysor, Paul (Gwendolyn) Raysor of Fernandina Beach; sisters-in-law, Judith Ann Foreman, Alice Mack (Terry), Terrie Hamilton, Lottie Bell Lewis (Michael); special nieces, Tameshia Sapp and Tyler (Julius’ name for her); 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as Elizabeth Russell of Fernandina Beach.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Jerusalem No. 1 Baptist Church, located at 300 Robinson Hill Road in White Oak, Ga.
