Gordon Augustus Plugge Jr., 73, of Washington, D.C., peacefully passed away July 2, 2018 after living a life of service to others. Gordon served his country for four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, served the people of D.C. as a residential telephone repairman, served the U.S. Congress as an office telephone repairman, served the recreational boating community of the Patuxent River in Maryland as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and served his community as an active member of the American Legion, first in Hughesville, Md. and later in Fernandina Beach, Fla. His legacy of service was a shining example to his family and to everyone he met.
Gordon is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Diane Plugge, who together shared their love of service with their three surviving children, daughter Sheri Bresnahan (Jeffrey), son Michael Plugge, and son Dennis Plugge. Gordon is also survived by his sister, Margaret Gellerson (David). Gordon was preceded in death by both of his parents, as well as his brother, Frank Bradley, and his sister, Susan Barrett.
In lieu of a memorial service, his wishes included a personal and private rite to be performed by his immediate family. A celebration of life for friends and family will also be scheduled in the fall with the date and location to be determined.
