Mrs. Myrtle Sowell Sapp, 93, of Yulee, Fla., passed away at her home Friday, October 26, 2018.

Born in Pierce County, Ga., she was one of six children born to the late Dalton and Mandy Durrance Courson. She and her husband, Tot Sowell, left farming in Pierce County and moved to Yulee in 1964.

Through the years she was a homemaker and also worked at Humpty Dumpty Eggs in Yulee and Fred’s Department Store. She was of the Baptist faith. Her children remember her as being the hard-working wife of a sharecropper and that willingness to work was always a part of her life.

She loved to garden, especially her vegetable garden, and then loved to can and “put up” the things she grew in the garden. She also enjoyed fishing, camping and being with her family.

In addition to her parents and her siblings, Thelma, Myrtice, Vilee, Claude and Cliff, she was predeceased by her first husband, Tot Sowell, in 1991, and her children, Donnie and Jerry Sowell and Joyce Dickens.

She leaves behind her husband of 18 years, Dewey Sapp of Yulee; her three sons, Jack Tot Sowell of Yulee, Travis (Mary) Sowell of Springfield, Mo. and Tracy (Lavinia) Sowell of Eastman, Ga.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sapp’s family received friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors with her nephew, Rev. Calvin Courson, officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her first husband at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery near Blackshear, Ga. at 4 p.m. the same afternoon.
