Ashley H. “Bud” Strickland, 71, of Yulee, Fla., passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Born in Fernandina Beach, Bud was a son of the late Jesse and Rebecca Wilds Strickland. He was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Fernandina Beach High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.

After returning from the Army, he became a millwright and was a member of Millwright’s Local No. 2411. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed working on his “Hot Rods” and riding his Harley and his “Big Dog.”

He was an avid golfer and would play whenever he could. He would meet with some of his high school classmates every month just to eat lunch. He referred to them as the ROMEO Club – Retired Old Men Eating Out.

In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by his son, Kelly Lee Strickland; his sisters, Julia Mixon and Mary Durrance; and a brother, Kenneth Strickland.

He leaves behind his life partner, Patricia Hamby of Yulee; his sister, Grace Strickland Whitley of Yulee; Patricia’s children, Wendy Bell and Chris Walker; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces; three nephews; and his two dogs, Abbigail and “Lil Man.”

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors with Rev. Edward Wilds officiating. He will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery with Military Honors.
