Joan Elizabeth (Murrie) Case, 75, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away November 16, 2018.
Joanie was the daughter of the late Ollie (Anderson) Murrie and the late Harold Murrie.
Joanie was born April 5, 1943 in Carmi, Ill. Throughout her adult life, she was a military wife and mom and also worked outside of the home as a sales clerk and an accounting clerk for different companies. Joanie became an avid golfer in her 40s and won numerous tournaments over the years including Ladies Club Champion at Little Creek Amphibious Base, Virginia Beach, Va.
Our Mom was always the happiest when surrounded by her family. She was so very thankful to be able to spend time with her grandchildren and her six little angels, as she lovingly referred to her great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, James D. Case Sr.; a son-in-law, Tommy Rhodes; and her two brothers, James Murrie and Robert (Bob) Murrie.
Joanie will be forever missed by her two daughters, Monica Cleveland and Cheryl (Fran) Hooke. She was married for over 30 years to the late James D. Case Sr. and had the blessing of being another "Mom" to James (Kyu-in) Case, Douglas (Theresa) Case, Christy Case, Jeff Case and Gary (Selesia) Case. Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Autumn (Juan) Contreras, Jake Cleveland, Maximilian Shaw and Joanie (Carlos) Rhodes-Thomas and her six great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Maximilano, Maelyn, Ariiah, Daydin and Karstin. She will be greatly missed by her much-loved sister, Doris Schwartz, and her aunt, Zetta Million, many nieces, nephews, cousins and those in our extended family that that called her “Grandma Joan.”
We want to thank Dr. Rodeffer and the staff at Amelia Internal, Dr. Perkins, Quality Health nurses and CNAs, and Baptist Hospital nurses, especially in ICU – all taking care of mom over many years. We appreciate all of you.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. December 8, 2018 at Main Beach Park on North Fletcher Avenue in Fernandina Beach and burial of her ashes will take place in Harrisburg, Ill. at a later date.
