
Lonnie Howard Murphy, 67, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Howard, as he was known by everyone, was born in Fernandina Beach to the late Lonnie and Sadie Marie (Jordan) Murphy. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was also known as “Murf the Surf” in his younger days because of his love for surfing.
He worked as a finish carpenter for most of his life and was never without his trademark straw hat and beard. In his spare time, he loved to fish. Howard never had children but devoted all of his love to his nieces, nephews. and his dog, Cork.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves behind his sister, Jeanette Kemp and her husband, Roy, of Fernandina Beach; niece, Sharon Pittman of Fernandina Beach; nephew, Kelly Kemp and his wife, Alisha, of St. Augustine, Fla.; great-nieces, Elizabeth Pittman and her husband, Danny, of Jacksonville, Fla. and Gracie Stack and her husband, Liam, of St. Augustine; great-nephews, Lance Corporal Caleb Kemp and Luke Kemp, both of St. Augustine.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at North 14th Street Baptist Church with a reception to follow at the church hall.
