Richard H. Hartman, retired carpenter and entrepreneur business owner, died April 1, 2019 at the age of 89 while under hospice care in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1929, he was the second of six sons born to Charles and Nora (Olsen) Hartman: Charles A. (d. 2012), Kenneth W. (d. 2014), Robert H. (d. 2016), Daniel (d. 1949), and James H., who lives in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Rich began working full-time as a carpenter at the age of 16 and continued to do so for the next 50-plus years. He married Joanne McKnight in 1950, six months after they met, and leaves behind four beloved children: Linda F. Hartman, Richard C. Hartman, Mary Elizabeth (Mer) Money, and Robert “Bob” M. Hartman (Michele).

Rich, affectionately known as “GR,” also leaves behind 11 adored grandchildren and 10 cherished great-grandchildren.

Rich and Joanne retired in 2001 from Grand Island, N.Y. to Florida, where they remained until they left this world. They were married for 61 years.

Rich will be remembered for his love for his family, his infectious sense of humor, his fun-loving nature, his love of potato chips, and his concern for the plight of the country's bats, which he worked to mitigate with his custom-made bat houses.

He will be sorely missed by all who love him. His final resting place will be in Buffalo.
