Gail Cathleen “Cathy” Powers, 65, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, December 2, 2019.
Cathy was born in Copperhill, Tenn. to the late Otis Thomas and Anna Lou Wright and was the youngest of 10 children. She grew up in Morganton, Ga., where she developed a deep love for the Appalachian Mountains, and was always quick to share stories of “the Mountains” with her family and friends. She then moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she worked as a real estate broker while raising her two children, and later relocated to Fernandina Beach, which she has called home for the past 25 years.
Cathy leaves behind a legacy of love, great generosity, faith, and a never-ending love for family. She also loved to paint, travel, and shop for antiques and trinkets. She gave unselfishly to anyone in need and was always there to lend an ear or be someone’s shoulder to cry on. Cathy accomplished many things in her short time here on earth, but her proudest accomplishment was her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life.
She leaves behind a daughter, Stephanie Echols and husband Carson Echols of Brandon, Fla.; a son, James Coker and wife Natasha Coker of Fernandina Beach; grandchildren, David Echols, Abigail Coker, Aubrey Coker, and Alley Coker, all of Fernandina Beach; and her loving companion, Charles Courson of Fernandina Beach.
The family welcomes all to join them for a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach.
