Holly J. Friedman, 63, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 29, 2016, at her home.
Born in Jacksonville, she was the daughter of the late Gladyce Fletcher Tyldsley Miller and adoptive father Alexander Augustus Miller. Holly grew up in Miami and was a graduate of Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Class of 1971. After high school, she attended Florida International University in Miami, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science.
She was born into a family of military aviators and commercial pilots and soon gained the needed training and certifications to fly as a third-generation commercial pilot and flight instructor. Holly flew for Chalk’s International Airlines out of Miami Seaplane Base, flying Grumman Mallards into Key West, Fort Lauderdale and the Bahamas. When not flying, she worked in a fly fishing shop in the Florida Keys. She later moved to Atlanta and flew corporate jets for Printpack Inc. She had made Fernandina Beach her home since 2007.
Holly was a yoga instructor, enjoyed traveling and, in recent years, flew to assist with right whale spotting and tracking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father, Frank H. Sheffield, and her former husband, Jerry Friedman.
Holly leaves behind her brothers and sister, Michael Sheffield and his wife, Jan, of Atlanta, Susan Corbett of Jacksonville Beach, Kevin Miller and his wife, Anne, of Atlanta, and Keith Miller and his wife, Brynda, of Miami; uncles and aunts, James and Carol Miller of Yulee, and Tony and Joyce Defusco of Exton, Pa.; her stepmother, Lynn Miller of Fernandina Beach; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at a later date as she is laid to rest beside her mother in Beverly Farms Cemetery, Beverly, Mass.
