Mr. John Forest Easley, age 88, of Fernandina Beach passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 23 , 2016 at Quality Healthcare of Fernandina.
Born in Scott County, KY, he was the son of the late John Plummer and Emma Belle Lucas Easley. He gained his early education in KY before attending college at the University of Florida and earning his Masters Degree. Upon graduation he assumed a position on the faculty which lasted until his retiring as Assistant Professor of Animal Science in 1983. Shortly after beginning his 30-year career as a faculty member in Gainesville he met his future wife, Martha Caroline Whitney. The newlyweds made their home in Gainesville where they lived, pursued their careers and retired until coming to Fernandina Beach in 1996.
Mr. Easley was an avid Bird watcher and enjoyed camping and cycling in Paines Prarie Preserve, which is located south of Gainesville in Micanopy.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Caroline Whitney Easley, Fernandina Beach, FL, their two daughters, Martha Reid Easley Tafel, Hamburg, Germany, Margaret Rebecca Easley, Saluda, NC, a niece, Debbie and two nephews, Lucas and Mike.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Peters Episcopal Church of Fernandina Beach with Reverend Rector Stephen Mazingo, officiating.
Mr. Easley will be laid to rest in St. Peters Cemetery.
