Jean Harlin Glover of Suwanee, Ga., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017. She was 84.
She was born July 1, 1932, in Glasgow, Ky., to Sewell Comer Harlin Sr. and Lucille Cassity Harlin. She grew up in Glasgow and attended Ward Belmont and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., where she met her future husband and love of her life, Hays Glover Jr. They were married April 26, 1951, and reared two children.
She ran the back office for a variety of small family businesses in Kentucky and Texas. Along the way, she was instrumental in fundraising for health-care facilities in Barrington, Illinois; the Boys and Girls Club of Fernandina Beach; and the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Delta Delta Delta, which built its sorority house in College Station, Texas, under Jean's, and other Tri-Delt alumnae’s, financial supervision. During retirement, she was involved in resident advocacy wherever she lived and was never short on feedback and organizational advice. She was sharp as a tack to her last day.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by her grandson, Timothy Ryan FitzGerald.
Jean is survived by her son, Hays Glover III and his wife, Robin; her daughter, Jean Glover FitzGerald and her husband, Tim; her brother, Sewell Comer Harlin Jr. and his wife, Marilyn; and four grandchildren, Charles Harlin Glover, Caroline Cassity Glover and her husband, Nelson Harvey, Allison Glover Hundley and her husband, Adam, and Kaitlin Taylor FitzGerald.
The family thanks the compassionate and caring staff at Arbor Terrace Johns Creek, her most recent place of residence. And a special thank you to Brandi of Loving Care Senior Concierge, who truly loved and cared for “Miss Jean” for most of the past two years.
A private memorial service will be held on Amelia Island.
