Barbara Lee Hodge slipped away in the arms of Jesus on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Born to the late Eddie Steele and Ella D. Howell of Fernandina Beach, she was the third child. Barbara attended school in Nassau County and graduated from Peck High School in 1965.
Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, Nathaniel King and Nettie Roberts.
She will be deeply missed by two nephews (whom she raised as sons), Don Roberts (Elaine) and Troy Whigham. Left to cherish her memory are a host of special nieces and nephews, Peggy, Evelyn, Beverly (Spencer), Celia, Mary, Edgar (Vickie), Terry, Derrick and John of Fernandina Beach, Ann, Barbara, Annette, Sandra, Renee, Ernest, Bobby and Nathaniel Jr. of Jacksonville, and especially her great-great nephew, “JJ”; and a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
A home-going service will be held at noon Saturday, April 15, at Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church, 202 S. Ninth St., Fernandina Beach.
The family will receive friends at New Jerusalem House of God Saints in Christ, 816 S. 10th St., Fernandina Beach, on Friday, April 14, from 5-7 p.m., and from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday at Macedonia AME Church.
Interment will be held in the Bosque-Bello Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at 11:30 a.m. at 511 N. 11th St., Fernandina Beach, under the direction of Huff & Battise Funeral Home; Roderic D. Feacher, LFDIC; Laprinzo M. Banks, LFD; 410 Beech St., Fernandina Beach, 261-4367.
