Mrs. Norma L. Potochnik

Mrs. Norma L. Potochnik, 83, of Hilliard, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville. A native of Wilkinsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Bernadine Larue. She spent her early years in Turtle Creek, Pa., where she attended elementary school and graduated from Turtle Creek Senior High School, Class of 1952.

Mrs. Potochnik joined the Westinghouse Electric Corp., working in the Miniature Components Manufacturing Department. On Dec. 12, 1953, she married one of her high school sweethearts, John Potochnik, and they were married for 63 years. His work required them to make many moves, and in 1957, they moved to Jacksonville, where she worked at the Imeson Airport Facility.

In 1969, they made their home in Fernandina Beach. She joined the staff of the newly opened 1878 Steakhouse. Mrs. Potochnik was a manager for many years and later took a job as manager for the Land and Williams Co. She and her husband retired in 1994 and moved to Hilliard.

She had a real deep passion for cooking and was an excellent cook. She was a Catholic by faith.

She leaves behind her beloved husband, John; her two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Vickie Potochnik of Port Orange, Fla., and Robert and Mary Potochnik of Fernandina Beach; her sister, Lavern Dubich of Murrysville, Pa.; her four grandchildren, Matthew and Erin Potochnik of Port Orange, Scott Potochnik of Fernandina, Andrew and Julie Potochnik of Jacksonville, and U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Austin and Brandie Potochnik of Misawa, Japan; her two great-grandchildren, Eli Potochnik and Owen Potochnik, both of Port Orange; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Jose Kallukalam officiating. A reception will follow after the service.
