
Ms. Patricia Pat Joiner Smith, age 74, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Sunday morning, April 24, 2016 at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she moved to Fernandina Beach at an early age with parents the late Sanford E. and Lorene Moore. Pat was raised in Fernandina and was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, Class of 1960. She married and made Orangeburg, SC her family’s home until the early 1980s. In 1982 she returned to Fernandina Beach. Upon her return, Pat began a career as a Clerical Administrator in the Paper and Pulp Industry. She worked at Container Corporation of America and in the ITT Rayonier Timber Division until retiring in 2006.
Pat was an avid Clemson Tiger fan, enjoyed walking the shores of Fernandina’s beaches with her loving dog, Zoe, and enjoyed working in her yard. She was a longtime active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Gail Shave Ladies Circle and was a staunch supporter of the Hope House.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty White and Barbara Gail Walters.
Pat leaves behind her children, Joe S. Smith and his wife, Cheryl Frate Smith, Anderson, SC, Kelly Lee Smith, Jackson, MS, Randy Smith, Fletcher, NC, her remaining sister, Sandra Sanderson (Mel), Alachua, FL, three grandchildren, Taylor, Katie and Joseph Smith, a nephew, Brig. Gen. Robert P. Walters Jr. (Nancy) and three nieces, Angela White , Robin W. Krasuski (Tim Ackerman) and Joy W. Leto (Chris), as well as the father of her children, Joe Delano Smith (Jennifer Stout-Smith).
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard with Reverend Drew Weseman, officiating.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 am until the hour of service.
Floral tributes are accepted and donations may be made to the Nassau Humane Society, The Hope House or to the Memorial United Methodist Church of Fernandina Beach.
