Janice Meredith Horne, 84, Fernandina Beach, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Born in North Miami Beach, she was the eldest of four children born to the late George M. Sargent and Myra Sargent. Janice moved to Fernandina Beach in 1994, where she lived for her remaining years of life.
Janice had a beautiful smile that would light up a room. Her favorite pastimes included gardening and spending time in the North Carolina mountains. She enjoyed entertaining her many longtime friends. Janice loved being a homemaker and spending time with her beloved family.
She graduated from Miami Edison High School, where she had the honor of serving as a marching cadet. Janice was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. Her love and faith in Jesus Christ brought her much joy and comfort.
During her young working years at the Miami Herald, she met her future husband, Bennie Horne, of Vidalia, Ga. The two became happily married in 1953.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years. She is survived by her two children, four granddaughters, two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Springhill Baptist Church. Pastor Jackie Hayes will officiate. Janice will be laid to rest at Springhill Cemetery.
